The newly amalgamated Winnipeg Regional Health Authority re-introduced itself and its new Board of Directors today and released the first of their semi-annual Reports to the Community.

"It's time for us to move forward," said Dr. Brian Postl, CEO. "We have our new Board in place, our structure has evolved to meet our expanded role and we're working toward more accountability and communication with our staff and the general public."

Patti Sullivan, Executive Director and CEO of the Manitoba Women's Enterprise Centre, has been appointed as Board Chair of the Health Authority and Neil Fast, former Board Chair of the previous Winnipeg Hospital Authority is now Vice-Chair.

"I am looking forward to working closely with this Board and the management team of the Health Authority to provide community input, leadership and direction that builds on the strong foundation of accomplishments that have been made to date," said Sullivan.

The Report to the Community provides the public with an introduction to the new, single Health Authority. It outlines background on work that has been done in the health system over the past two years and describes some of the challenges yet to be addressed. The report will run this Sunday in the Herald, the Lance, the Times, and the Metro community papers, in Senior's Today Prime/Time News on Wednesday, March 15th and the French paper La Liberté on Friday March 17th.

"The feedback we've received from staff and the public is almost unanimous," added Postl. "Approximately 95% have said that it is absolutely critical, or very important, that the Health Authority communicate with the public on a regular basis. These reports, at a delivered cost of less than 17¢ each, fulfill that objective in a cost-effective way."
