Public Advisory for St. Boniface General Hospital

St. Boniface General Hospital is experiencing problems with its water. As a precautionary measure the hospital is making alternate arrangements for its in-patient, out-patient care and services.

All elective surgical procedures at St. Boniface General Hospital scheduled for today have been cancelled. Individuals who have appointments at the SBGH out-patient department will be rescheduled for a later date. Any one requiring emergency medical attention are asked to present to another hospital.

Women in labour or expectant mothers who require medical attention are to proceed to the Health Sciences Centre until further notice.

Signs have been posted throughout the facility informing staff, patients and visitors of the situation and advising them not to drink the water or use it to wash. Alternate water sources are being made available for consumption and cleaning.

The problem is contained to the St. Boniface General Hospital campus, and is not affecting the surrounding areas. The Hospital is working with the City of Winnipeg and the Province to determine the source of the problem and respond to any patient needs. Although the source of contamination has not been identified, there is no indication that patients and individuals are in danger. The hospital is taking every precaution to ensure the continued safety of its patients.

All staff are asked to present to work as normal.

A media briefing will be held at 2:30 P.M. in the Mezzanine of the Asper Institute.
