Winnipeg Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week is being celebrated across Canada from October 1-7, 2007. Breast milk provides essential nutrition for babies, and supporting breastfeeding mothers and babies is important to the long term health of Manitobans. Studies show that early initiation of breastfeeding is a vital step towards improving breastfeeding success., so this year's theme is "Breastfeeding First - Within an Hour After Birth."

There are a variety of clinics and breastfeeding support groups in Winnipeg, offering a variety of services that may include individual consultation and group activities with lactation consultants and breastfeeding counsellors.
