Community Health celebrates season

Santa's helpers in the kitchen included Lynda Tjaden (front, from left), Linda Dando, Arlene Wilgosh, Daniela Evenson and Carolyn Strutt, along with Merrilee Sigvaldason (back).

Community Health Centralized Services celebrated the season with a pancake breakfast and a musical interlude on Dec. 10.

Winnipeg Health Region President & CEO Arlene Wilgosh was right in the thick of things, serving pancakes to many of the health care staff who came to the breakfast held at the Robert A. Steen Community Centre.

Community Health Centralized Services is made up of 400 health care personnel who work in home care, public health and mental health, who are not based at a medical centre. This was their chance to get together for a holiday party, says Margaret Kozlowski, WRHA Director of Family Medicine / Primary Care Community.

Along with pancakes and sausages, the staff were treated to songs by Ill Dunno, a musical quartet made up of two singers from mental health and two from home care. On this day, three of the members sang an amusing take-off on "Walking in a Winter Wonderland."

"I'm supposed to be driving in my car, and talking about how Winterpeg Man has to deal with snowy streets and yellow snowmen," said Chez-Roy Birchwood, who sang along with antler-sporting back-up singers Chris Billows and Ken Pauls. They rounded out their set by leading the crowd in singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
