The fun continues at the Red River Ex until Sunday, including great health tips and activities to get your body in motion at the GO4health Expo inside Exhibition Place.

This health expo has drawn 70 organizations, demonstrating everything from easy ways to be physically active, to tips on improving your nutrition and how to reduce your use of tobacco.

Stephanie Zubriski from the Manitoba Lifesaving Society spent Friday afternoon in the lap pool, demonstrating how to put on a personal floatation device while in both shallow water and deep, moving water. The audience watched as she swam against the current generated by the lap pool, ducking as she splashed them.

Katherine Kwiecien walked through the giant inflatable pink colon set up by the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada. She learned that women are just as likely to get colon cancer as men, and also is pondering taking part in the Kick Butt event the association is hosting on Sept. 10 to raise awareness of this cancer.

The free bike helmet give-away this afternoon drew quite a crowd. Winnipeg in motion has been giving away 600 helmets to children, in order to encourage them to use them while riding their bikes. The in motion pedometers were also quite the going concern, with staff helping people clip the devices to their waist belts, and telling them they need to make at least 10,000 steps a day in order to have a healthy lifestyle.

The in motion Play Zone was getting kids hopping. One young lad took a flying leap over a pile of soft blocks, and then let his imagination loose while burning off steam. Under the direction of in motion staff, he rolled a dice that directed him to do 12 push-ups, and then had to figure out how to actually do a push-up, much to his father's amusement.

Looking ahead, this Sunday, June 26, the Winnipeg Health Region is sponsoring smoke-free day at the Red River Ex. Nicotene replacement therapy patches and gum kits will be given out to the first 1,000 people who are interested in stopping smoking. There will also be other stop-smoking supports at the GO4health EXpo, such as information on the Smokers' Helpline.

The GO4health EXpo is located in the Exhibition Place building near the main entrance to the Red River Ex, which runs until this Sunday, June 26.
