Region committed to health equity, ending homelessness

The Winnipeg Health Region has taken a number of steps in recent years to help enhance the health and well-being of the city's homeless population.

These efforts are all part of the Region's commitment to health equity, a term used to describe an approach that seeks to close gaps in the delivery of care caused by social and economic issues, including homelessness.

Approaching health service delivery from a health equity perspective means the Region has started to identify gaps between those in our city experiencing the best and poorest health.

The Region has created a plan to help identify and reduce barriers to accessing health services. In terms of the homeless, the Region has partnered with various groups to launch new a number of initiatives, including Community Housing with Supports Program and the Bell Hotel renovation project.
