On Sept. 22 the 2nd Annual Laundry Games were held at 1725 Inkster Blvd. Eight teams competed in activities such as folding, sorting, and delivering linens to get the best time.

"We started the games last year when we celebrated our tenth anniversary for the plant here in Inkster. This year, together with our plant in Selkirk…the teams now are coming all together to have a little friendly competition," said Janice Desautels, Director, WRHA Regional Laundry Services.
Because of the positive response and high participation at last year's event, the staff decided to make the laundry games an annual event where they can recognize the effort and skill that goes into providing patients with the linens they need.

"The staff here are so proud of what they do. We're somewhat separated from that patient experience, so we always want to make sure this is why we're here. We're here to make sure that the patients have good, fresh linens and are cared for and are comfortable," said Desautels.

The event was organized by a small team lead by Patricia Chow, Operations Manager, WRHA Regional Laundry Services. Chow explained that last year the games included activities completed by individuals.

"This year I decided, instead of an obstacle course, this year we would have more team involvement," said Chow.

"The first phase is basically the sorting phase, the second phase is the folding phase, the third phase is the order building, which mimics our shipping area, the fourth phase is the delivery because I wanted to involve the driver side of it, and the fifth phase is the patient experience," said Chow.

The event ran from 11 a.m. to noon and there were snacks available to raise funds for the United Way.
