Home Care Delays Update

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority
Published Thursday, December 18, 2025

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) is advising that due to the storm that is currently impacting our area, and following steps in our emergency preparedness protocol, we will be significantly reducing home care services today.

This means most home care clients will not be seen today, unless they are considered high risk. We will attempt to contact those who will be receiving services during this time; however we may not be able to reach everyone, and a Home Care staff member may arrive at a time that is different than your regularly scheduled time. For those who receive service, only essential tasks will be performed, and they will likely only be seen once in a 24-hour period.

The remainder of clients are being asked to initiate their backup/storm plans until otherwise notified. We will be reassessing the situation daily and will advise when home care will resume.

This also means patients being discharged from hospital will likely not receive home care services over the coming days. Patients requiring care will only be discharged if they can safely be released into the care of a family member or other support person.

If you require further assistance, please contact your Case Coordinator, or if after hours, our After-Hours unit number at 204-788-8331. If you have a medical emergency, immediately call 911.

We apologize in advance for any disruption this may cause our clients and their families.
