Rosemary Szabadka

Public Health Dietitian, ACCESS Fort Garry

Rosemary Szabadka is a public health dietitian serving South Winnipeg, from the Fort Garry Access Centre. She supports individuals and families to incorporate healthy nutrition into their lives in a way that is affordable, accessible and enjoyable for all.

Under normal circumstances, part of Rosemary's work usually involves facilitating Healthy Baby groups and workshops on topics like infant nutrition, raising healthy eaters and general nutrition as well as being a resource to the community and her public health team. Rosemary is well known for her presentations which are always fun and entertaining as she ensures that all participants find the easy joy of preparing healthy meals for themselves and their families.

As face-to-face groups haven't been possible since COVID-19 turned our lives upside down, Rosemary has written a newspaper article and created videos on these subjects and shared them with community members through Facebook Live and other media. The article and videos address some of the unique challenges presented by isolation and social distancing and share ideas for cooking healthy, affordable and tasty meals at a time when money may be tight and people are trying to minimize the frequency of grocery shopping trips.

In the words of one of her co-workers, "Rosemary has been doing phenomenal work during this pandemic, as well as during her last 20 years as a dietitian. I strongly believe she is not recognized enough for her phenomenal hard work."

Great job, Rosemary!
