Shawna McBride

Clinical Resource Nurse

Shawna moved to Churchill in 2013 to complete her senior practicum in nursing, returning after graduation from Brandon University's Bachelor of Nursing Program to work as an emergency, acute care and long term care nurse from 2013-2019. She also worked for two years in the operating room in a Circulating Nurse role.

Currently a Clinical Resource Nurse at the Churchill Health Centre (CHC), Shawna is actively involved in preparing the facility for its upcoming Accreditation this fall. Part of that work has included the creation of a host of new quality improvement plans and standard operating procedures.

As an active participant of Churchill's COVID-19 Incident Command team, she has also contributed to the development of Churchill's surge plans in cooperation with the Patient Care Manager. Shawna has worked to ensure that adequate equipment and supplies are available at CHC, and has implemented mock protected medical emergency scenarios twice a week. She also participates in daily huddles to update unit staff.

In the words of one of her co-workers, "Shawna has not been in this role for very long and the accomplishments she has made are incredible.  She is working so hard [to make] sure that the nursing unit is meeting all the (accreditation) standards and creating new policies and procedures."

Well done, Shawna!
