On September 30th, we recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, a time for all Canadians to reflect on the impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous peoples and communities. As a health region, we are committed to honoring this day through meaningful action, education, and engagement with Indigenous voices.
Reflect, Learn, and Take Action with us as we support reconciliation and healing for Indigenous communities.
Our Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
Our health region is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Indigenous patients, clients, and communities. We recognize the importance of understanding the historical and ongoing impacts of residential schools, and we actively engage in efforts to foster healing and reconciliation.
Through our WRHA Indigenous Health Services, we provide culturally safe care and support for Indigenous patients and families, as well as resources for staff to enhance cultural competency in their practice.
Services include:
- Advocacy and support for Indigenous patients
- Access to traditional healing practices
- Cultural safety education for staff and physicians
- Indigenous programming and partnerships
