WRHA gets top marks for spinal cord injury program at HSC Winnipeg

August 10, 2016 – The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA)'s Spinal Cord Injury Program at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg (HSC) - the only program of its kind in Manitoba - is one of the first in Canada to be successfully accredited according to standards developed by the Rick Hansen Institute (RHI) and Accreditation Canada (AC) in 2012 and rolled out for AC site reviews across the country.

Grand opening celebration held for new MRI suite at Grace Hospital

June 30, 2016 – Construction is complete on the new MRI Suite at Grace Hospital, and the facility has been open and fully functional since mid-April. Today, those associated with the project came together to celebrate the achievement with a grand opening party.

Students with developmental disabilities join HSC Winnipeg to intern, learn employable skills

June 28, 2016 – Eleven high school students from Winnipeg with developmental disabilities will be studying higher education at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg beginning this fall.. The students are part of Project SEARCH, a one-year program dedicated to providing people with disabilities opportunities to learn relevant, marketable skills while immersed in a business.

STARS stocking blood for life-saving transfusions

June 21, 2016 – The Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) is the first air medical program in Canada to begin stocking blood in advance for life-saving transfusions. Manitoba Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, Kelvin Goertzen visited the STARS Winnipeg base today to announce the new service offered by STARS in Manitoba. 

Power restored to Buhler building

March 14, 2016 – Patients whose diagnostic imaging appointments were put on hold due to a power outage at the Health Sciences Centre’s Buhler Building March 8 will receive some good news this week. Staff from the University of Manitoba, which operates the building, worked through the weekend to restore power after a sewer backup led to a power outage affecting four (4) floors of the building and putting approximately 48 appointments on hold.

March 10, 2016 – On Tuesday, March 8, a sewer back-up led to a power outage effecting floors five (5) through eight (8) of the Buhler Centre, operated by the University of Manitoba and located on the Health Sciences Centre's Winnipeg campus.

Visitor restrictions in place on all in-patient units at HSC Children’s

March 4, 2016 – The Medical Director of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Child Health Program is informing the public of steps being taken to prevent transmission of respiratory infections at Children's Hospital. This public reminder is being issued as Health Sciences Centre Children's Hospital is seeing an increase in the number of cases of Influenza A.

HSC announces upcoming heliport

January 12, 2016 – The Minister of Health joined the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) and STARS air ambulance today at a public forum to introduce Winnipeg’s first downtown heliport, located at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg (HSC). The heliport, scheduled to host its first helicopter landing this spring, will be the latest in a series of capital projects to be completed at HSC, Manitoba’s largest trauma centre, and will allow patients with life-threatening health concerns to access the hospital more quickly than they are currently able to.
