Primary care available for those with flu-like symptoms
Now, more than ever, taking care of your health needs should be a priority for Winnipeggers.
The need for timely, appropriate care is even more important if you start to experience influenza like illness (like cough, fever, aches and chills) that are also common symptoms of COVID-19. Most people who get COVID-19, or the flu, will not need to receive care in hospital and will recover safely at home while keeping isolated from other members of their household.
If you DO happen to need medical care for a flu-like illness or while positive for COVID-19 there are community options to help you manage your symptoms so you can get back to your home-based recovery quickly.
If you have flu-like illness or have COVID-19 and need assistance with symptom management or non-urgent health concerns call your family doctor to determine if they can help you. If they cannot, they will make a referral for an appointment the same or next day, at one of the Winnipeg assessment clinics on your behalf.
There are three Assessment Clinics in Winnipeg with staff who are equipped and ready to support your pressing health needs that don't require emergency care. These clinics are available for symptom management or to help with other health needs if you need to be seen in person.
These Assessment Clinics are appointment only services operating out of three Winnipeg Access Centres and are accessed through your family doctor.
If you don't have a family doctor, please call Health Links-Info Santé to book an appointment at one of the assessment clinics.
