Lavonne Harms
Public Health Dietitian
Lavonne Harms is a public health dietitian with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. She works with a number of initiative to promote food access and healthy living information to Winnipeggers.
Food security and providing adequate support for Winnipeggers experiencing hunger is a challenge for Winnipeg's charitable/non-profit food organizations. COVID-19 has further highlighted the importance of this work and the challenges faced by many within our community. With COVID-19- related job loss the demand continues grow. Following public health orders, many community resources that provide much-needed food security had to close or offer reduced services.
To help address these issues Lavonne works alongside other WRHA public health team members and dietitians to help build strong networks of community organization and support collaborative partnerships across sectors. Together all the sectors have come up with creative solutions to support each other and the community during this difficult time. Lavonne believes in the strength of community development and multi-sector partnerships that empower communities and neighbourhoods to take action on food security and enhanced public health.
