Child Health

The Child Health Program provides a broad range of pediatric emergency, medical and surgical services to the Children of Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Nunavit. These services include the delivery of primary, secondary and tertiary care. The Child Health program is responsible to manage, coordinate and fund the majority of provincial programs for children throughout Manitoba. As well, it provides guidance and assistance to many provincial regions looking for technical and medical information.

Serving the unique needs of Children, the Child Health Program operates within a complex environment, partnering with a number of Child related agencies in an effort to offer the best Childcare possible. At present, the Child Health Program has been focused on providing facility-based services with some link the community health services. At present, most of the activity is provided at Health Sciences Centre with some activity at St. Boniface General Hospital. There are now formal linkages with the Rehabilitation Centre for Children and significant planning towards enhanced community care.

It addition to providing care, the Child Health Program is committed to supporting undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education as well as research activities targeted to improved provision of health services of Children.

The Child Health Program demographic responsibility is to serve children from birth to their 17th birthday.
