COVID-19 Information for the Traveller

Leaving Canada for International Travel

You are responsible for knowing the entry requirements of your destination at the time of travel. We suggest you check this information twice: once at the time of booking and once right before travel.

For national information regarding travel, testing and borders, please refer to the Public Health Agency of Canada's website.

For country specific information regarding preventative measures and restrictions for travel, please refer to the Government of Canada travel advisory website for specific information on your destination country.

At this time, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) currently advises that eligible travellers should be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before travelling. Travellers should complete a COVID-19 vaccination series with a currently approved vaccine, either in Canada or abroad. Vaccines approved for use abroad, number of doses and intervals between doses may be different than those approved in Canada. Be aware that even with your Canadian proof of vaccination against COVID-19, you may not be considered fully vaccinated in another country (especially if you have experienced mixed vaccine schedules or extended dose intervals). Some countries may require use of specific mobile applications or websites to show proof of vaccination or negative test results upon entry. Mobile apps or websites such as Re-Open Eu may be in use by your airline or destination country. Please refer to the Government of Canada travel advisory website and your airline for specific information about any apps in use by your destination country.

Before downloading any mobile app, be cautious of any fraudulent app or websites asking for payment. Secure, government approved apps will never ask for money or banking information. If you think you have encountered a COVID-19 related fraud/scam, report it here.

Be aware that although you are better protected against serious illness if you are vaccinated, you may still be at risk of infection from the virus that causes COVID-19. At your destination, be sure to check for information on regional outbreaks and/or the presence of any new variants of concern.

If you're unvaccinated, you remain at increased risk of being infected with and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 when travelling internationally. You should continue to avoid non-essential travel to all destinations. If you must travel, consider delaying your plans until you're fully vaccinated. If travelling, you may be required to quarantine in your destination country.

Returning to Canada after International Travel

Effective October 1, 2022, the Government of Canada has removed all COVID-19 entry restrictions by air, land or sea, as well as testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada. Regularly review COVID-19 and International Travel as requirement can change without notice.

As additional travel restrictions can come into effect suddenly, your return flights to Canada may be disrupted or suspended. Make sure to monitor the media, government announcements, and your airline’s website for updated information.

The ArriveCan mobile app used in Canada is not currently required for travellers entering Canada, although you can still use it at some airport locations, to complete your Advanced Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) Declaration form, to save time upon arrival.

COVID-19 Testing for Travel

Please note that COVID-19 PCR testing cannot be done through WRHA Travel Health & Tropical Medicine Services. All COVID-19 PCR testing and the associated costs involved for international travellers are the responsibility of the traveller; prices can vary between private testing sites.
