Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Nutrition recommendations are individualized according to stage and laboratory values.
Stage 1 and 2 CKD
- Eat healthy. Follow Canada's Food Guide.
- Include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and milk products.
- Limit processed and packaged foods; reduce sodium intake.
- Try to make sure your blood pressure and blood sugar are well-controlled.
- Avoid high protein diets.
Stage 3, 4, 5 CKD
- Diet is individualized according to stage and laboratory values.
- Contact your doctor or registered dietitian for specific information.
- Diet restrictions may start for certain minerals such as potassium and phosphorus.
