Regional Ethics Council
The Regional Ethics Council focuses on the integration of ethics throughout the Winnipeg Health Region. The Council works on initiatives to enhance ethics resources, strategies and processes. The Council facilitates review of regional ethics issues, but does not review ethics issues related to individual cases. Membership is interprofessional and representative of a range of health care contexts. Members demonstrate both a strong commitment to, and practical engagement with, the advancement of regional ethics initiatives and strategies. We have three active working groups:
- The Issues Working Group examines specific ethical questions identified by staff and develops decision support resources
- The Education Working Group reviews and develops ethics education, including the annual ethics forum
- The Policy Working Group examines policies that are in development or up for review in order to ensure an ethics lens has been included in stakeholder feedback.
Our members serve 3-year terms on Council, so the Regional Ethics Council puts out a call for new members annually.
The Regional Ethics Council also welcomes the input of the Public Engagement Group, a group of 10-14 members of the public who gather 2-4 times per year to provide ethics input from a public perspective on various issues, policies, and topics. The input of this group is provided to policy authors and WRHA leaders to ensure the public perspective is included in the ethical considerations of organizational decisions. We issue a call for new members annually. If you are interested in joining this group, please see our application.
