To apply for the Uncertified Home Care Attendant Training Program, visit the UHCA Training Program job posting on our careers website and click “apply now.” If you have applied for a job with us before, sign in to your account. If you are not yet a registered user, create an account. If you need help creating an account, watch our video tutorial.

We are looking for passionate individuals with the following experience and qualifications:

Recent experience in providing personal care to children, persons 65 years and older and/or those with disabilities is required
Previous experience with housekeeping, laundry and meal preparation is preferred
Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required
Effective English verbal and written communication skills
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must possess and maintain a valid intermediate or full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's license and have personal access to a vehicle for work purposes
Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check

Home care attendants use their personal vehicles to travel between their client’s homes. Therefore, a valid intermediate or full stage driver’s license is required at the time of application.

A certified home care attendant is someone who has completed their health care aide training and obtained a certificate from a recognized educational institution. This can be done in as little as six months and wages start at $20.99/hour.

An uncertified home care attendant is someone who has successfully completed the WRHA’s four-week Uncertified Home Care Training Program. Uncertified home care attendants earn $19.50/hour.

There is no difference in the type of work or tasks that are assigned to certified or uncertified home care attendants, as they are both able to provide home care services to our clients.

Working as an uncertified home care attendant provides a stepping stone to becoming a certified home care attendant/health care aide. The WRHA currently offers a funded Bridging Program to obtain your health care aide certificate once you have achieved a certain number of hours of work with the Home Care Program as an uncertified home care attendant. A number of Manitoba's educational institutions also offer Challenge Programs where an applicant can enroll to obtain their health care aide certificate if they have obtained a pre-requisite number of hours as an uncertified health care aide/home care attendant.

During the four-week training program, you will learn about routine practices to maintain a safe and sanitary environment, proper ergonomics and fall prevention, safe client handling, lifts and transfers using a variety of techniques, dignity in care, mental health, communication and more. Our skilled instructors will provide you with the knowledge and confidence you need to succeed as an uncertified home care attendant. As a student, you will participate in full-time, hands-on and classroom learning, followed by a practicum in the community.

Uncertified home care attendants work with clients in the comfort of their own homes, helping them live independently by assisting with activities of daily living. This includes personal care (bathing/toileting), mobility and transfer assistance, meal planning and preparation, medication assistance, housekeeping and laundry, and in-home respite services.

Due to the nature of this job, driving within your assigned community area is a large part of working as a home care attendant. There are several factors that impact the amount of time you will spend driving, but on average, home care attendants spend anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours of their day on the road.
