Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease in which your body either can’t make insulin or can’t properly use the insulin it is making. Insulin is a hormone made by your pancreas.
Insulin’s role is to control the amount of sugar in your blood. Blood sugar levels need to be within a target range for your body to work properly. Too much sugar in the blood can cause damage to organs (i.e. heart, kidneys), blood vessels (i.e. veins and arteries including those in your eyes) and nerves. Your body needs insulin to use sugar for energy.
