Diet

Your discharge instructions will include the diet you are to follow upon discharge. If you are ordered a special diet, you will be given a copy of the diet and any special instructions you need.

Why do I need to follow this diet?

Eating enough food including protein-rich foods, is important for wound healing and recovery. Protein-rich foods include meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy, soy and legumes. There are many different types of diets specific to certain medical conditions. If you don't follow the diet some restricted foods may cause a decline in your health. It is very important to try to follow this diet as closely as possible. If you have any questions you should call your physician.

Who can I talk to if I have more questions about a specific diet?

The Dial-a-Dietitian service of Manitoba is there to answer questions and provide advice on food and nutrition to help individuals and families live well and stay healthy. Dial-a-Dietitian connects callers to a Registered Dietitian, a licensed health professional who can take the science of nutrition and put it into practical eating advice.
