Home Care & Palliative Care Advisory Council
The WRHA Home Care & Palliative Care Advisory Council (HCPCAC) is made up of individuals with lived experience in relation to Home Care services along with family members and natural supports of a Home Care or Palliative Care client. The Council will be a mechanism for on-going input from recipients of Home Care and Palliative Care services, and their caregivers, toward an improved understanding of needs and issues when designing and delivering Home Care and Palliative Care services.
Membership
The Council includes a minimum of ten (10) members to a maximum of fifteen (15) members with at least 80 per cent of the council members having personal experience in relation to Home Care and/or Palliative Care Services (e.g., clients, live-in caregivers). The remaining 20 per cent of members will include individuals that support a person who receives Home Care or Palliative Care Services (such as a family member) or a member of the community at large who has strong interests in improving WRHA Home Care and Palliative Care Program. Efforts are made to ensure citizen and client representatives reflect the diversity of clients served by the home care and palliative care programs (from across the Winnipeg health region, Indigenous, newcomer to Canada, living with a disability, identify with any minority identity or community). WRHA staff members will participate as an “ex officio” member, serving as the Co-Chairs. Support for the council will be provided by the Home Care Program, Palliative Care Program and public engagement staff. The Director- Health Services for Home Care and Palliative Care along with the Clinical Operations Lead, Manager-Health Services Home Care will participate on the Council.
Advisory Council Role
As representatives of the community, WRHA HCPCAC members perform the following duties:
- Provide feedback and advice regarding the vision and strategy for the WRHA Home Care & Palliative Care programs;
- Discuss a broad range of health and human service issues that impact the lives of clients and their support networks as they access home care and palliative care services;
- Inform the WRHA Home Care & Palliative Care program of their understanding of the needs and issues when designing and delivering these services.
We need community people
We are looking for individuals who have a personal passion for and commitment to ongoing improvements to the Home Care and Palliative Care programs and the quality of life of those receiving these services in order to live independently in the community. Council members may hold a volunteer position for a maximum three-year term. Selection of Council membership is done by Home Care and Palliative Care Services and is based on current recruitment requirements. At minimum, each council will meet four times per year (between May and April) with a maximum of six meetings, based on agenda items. Meetings are held virtually.
