Indigenous Sweat Lodge Teaching Workshop

Half-Day Workshop

The Indigenous Sweat Lodge Teachings Workshop can be taken on its own or in conjunction with the Traditional Indigenous Teachings Workshop.

GOAL

The Indigenous Sweat Lodge Teaching workshop will provide an opportunity to participate in a teaching sweat and better understand a Traditional sweat lodge.

THE WORKSHOP

Through experiential learning, the Indigenous Sweat Lodge Teachings workshop will provide teaching and an experience not available in literature, lectures or verbal accounts. Guided by an Elder, attendees will experience a teaching sweat and learn about the sweat lodge.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN:

  • Participate in a teaching sweat in a Traditional Sweat Lodge
  • Develop increased understanding and knowledge of Indigenous ceremonies
  • Obtain information to assist in providing culturally competent and proficient care

What Participants Should Bring/Know:

  • Women on their moon time are not to take part in this workshop
  • Women: a light shirt/T-shirt and long skirt or flannel long nightgown
  • Men: shorts and a T-shirt
  • A towel
  • Fruit, water and small food items for personal consumption may also be brought
  • Jewelry and metals should not be worn

1 - 4:00 pm (Arrive early to ensure you are ready for a 1 pm start)

It is recommended that participants complete the Indigenous Cultural Awareness Workshop prior to this workshop.

We are currently transitioning from WRHA's Organization & Staff Development's online registration system to the Learning Management System operated by Manitoba eHealth.
