Indigenous Health – Workforce Development
WRHA Indigenous Health – Workforce Development strives to develop a representative workforce within the Winnipeg health region that reflects the population of Winnipeg. Activities include promotion of employment within the Winnipeg health region, recruitment of qualified Indigenous people, and the development of retention strategies for existing Indigenous employees.
Outreach
WRHA Indigenous Health – Workforce Development engages the community to inform, educate, mentor and support Indigenous youth through programming and promotions. Programs include opportunities for youth to learn about and gain hands on experience in health-care careers. Information is also shared through school presentations and career fairs.
WRHA Indigenous Health – Workforce Development also coordinates work experience opportunities for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students with a goal of building a potential future workforce. From summer employment and practicums students gain insight and and hands-on experience in health region environments.
Recruitment
Through partnerships with community organizations and participation in career fairs, WRHA Indigenous Health – Workforce Development works to recruit Indigenous people for available positions within the Winnipeg health region. Recruitment initiatives include guidance for potential applicants as well as assistance in navigating the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority application process. The program also networks with Indigenous employment and education service providers in Winnipeg to ensure job seekers have access to any necessary resources needed during their job search.
