Mental Health & Addictions Advisory Council

The Mental Health & Addictions Advisory Council is an opportunity for individuals with lived experience, family members, and other interested individuals to provide input regarding mental health and addictions service planning, implementation, and evaluation.  Volunteer members dialogue on a broad range of health and human service issues that impact the lives of people with mental illness, addictions challenges, and their support networks. There are 8 to 16 members on the Council. A minimum of 60% of the Council are people with lived experience of mental health and addictions services and their family/natural supports.

Themes Explored with the Council

The Mental Health & Addictions Advisory Council explores topics that requires input on and that members feel are important. In the past, the Council has explored the following issues:

  • Engagement Resource Development
  • Family Participation and Natural Support
  • Stigma of Mental Illness and Mental Health Literacy
  • Crisis Response System Redevelopment
  • Recovery-oriented Mental Health System
  • Effective Transitions Between Acute Care and Community-based Services

  • Mental Health Promotion in Schools
